Zostera marina beds to the west of Fenit Island tombolo have been monitored in 2021 to 2023. Efforts include mapping of Zostera noltei beds of local intertidal bays and harbours. In 2022 and 2023 we looked closely at the stages of Zostera flowering plants including a study by four coastal communities observing a subtidal Zm bed in a rock pool off Banna Beach, Tralee, Bay, Kerry, Ireland. Important seasonal variation resulted from Brent Geese depleting the Barrow Harbour Zn beds during their wintering-over visit from Canada with no long term negative impact. The Zm beds are generally stable with predictable subtidal scouring caused by local tidal / severe weather events at the southern end of transect A.
