This eelgrass monitoring station is located on the western side of Shediac Bay, a shallow embayment connected to the Northumberland Strait on the eastern coast of New Brunswick. The site lies approximately one kilometre from the mouth of the Scoudouc River, one of the two major river systems flowing into the bay. Shediac Bay is characterized by shallow waters, fine sand and mud substrates, and extensive eelgrass beds. The bay’s shallow bathymetry and weak tidal exchange contribute to warm summer water temperatures. This site has been sampled by the Shediac Bay Watershed Association since 2019.
