New Brunswick, Tabusintac
CU69.2Canada
Bayshore Site, CU69.2, is located within the Tabusintac Bay in Northeastern New Brunswick, Canada. This site is located within an estuary and lagoon system, protected from the southern Gulf of St. Lawrence by a 15 km natural barrier of shoals, dunes, and barrier islands. The most common species of eelgrass is Zostera marina that covers approximately 90% of the Tabusintac Bay. Tabusintac Watershed Association started monitoring eelgrass using the SeagrassNet protocols in 2015 with the assistance of Dr. Fred Short and the Southern Gulf of Collation. The monitoring has allowed to compare impacts on local water quality that includes water temperatures and turbidity, while assessing the biodiversity and richness of aquatic and terrestrial species that eelgrass supports. Community members, First Nations, stakeholders, and government agencies greatly depend on eelgrass ecological services and functions that it provides for the region.
