Maryland, Tingles Island
MD12.2United States of America
The seagrass bed is located on the Chincoteague Bay side of Assateague Island in Maryland. It has both Zostera marina and Ruppia maritima. Typically, Ruppia dominates on the shallow transect, both species on the mid-depth transect, and Zostera on the deep transect. The site has been sampled since 2009. Similar to trends we've seen in the Chesapeake Bay, the Zostera has largely died off from the deep transect. Over more recent years, Zostera only exists in patches throughout this site, and it has no longer been an extensive meadow.
