| The
seagrass population at Tizzard Island is relatively new. Zostera marina
disappeared from this area in the 1930’s (waisting disease) and
only began to recolonize the study site in 1997 (left photo – southeastern
shoreline). Presently, the seagrass bed is extensive and healthy but the
deeper edge is being negatively impacted by clam dredging (right photo).
We are tracking the recovery of the disturbed seagrass area along one
of the SeagrassNet transects. Some photos of this area
